Kushinda Academy was born from a legacy of industry experience and a belief in the power of people to learn, lead and conquer. The Academy's roots are connected to Kushinda Caterers, an operating business that provided direct experience of professional standards, employment structures and the realities of industry. This experience highlighted an important distinction that there is a difference between possessing knowledge and being able to apply that knowledge competently. Kushinda Academy was established to help bridge that gap.Since receiving its accreditation in 2023 and beginning training in 2024, the Academy has continued to develop an educational environment grounded in credible education, practical competence and meaningful opportunity. In September 2025, Kushinda welcomed its first Occupational Certificate: Chef cohort. While culinary education remains an important part of our heritage, Kushinda Academy has grown beyond its original culinary focus. Today, the Academy is a multi-faculty training and skills development provider serving learners pursuing careers across Culinary Arts and Hospitality, Beauty, and Health and Safety.This growth reflects our commitment to responding to the skills, employment and enterprise needs of our learners, industry and the wider South African economy.Kushinda means “to win” or “to conquer” in Swahili. At Kushinda Academy, this is more than a name. It represents a mindset built on preparation, competence, resilience, discipline, Ubuntu and the pursuit of mastery.We believe that talent can be developed into meaningful success regardless of background or circumstance.
At Kushinda Academy, we bring knowledge, practical skill and workplace application together. Our educational approach is based on the understanding that competence is developed through active participation, practical experience, assessment and meaningful workplace application. Learners are therefore encouraged to understand their discipline, develop their competence, understand their industry and conduct themselves professionally. Our goal is not simply to produce people who have completed a qualification. It is to develop people who are prepared to perform, grow and contribute within their chosen occupation.
1. Faculty of Culinary Arts and Hospitality: Our heritage faculty, built from the professional culinary foundations of Kushinda, offers training across professional cheffing, cookery, baking, food and beverage operations and kitchen support. 2. Faculty of Beauty: Our Beauty faculty prepares learners for careers across body care, massage, beauty therapy, hair services and related personal care environments, combining technical skill with client-centred professionalism and business awareness. 3. Faculty of Health and safety: Our Health and Safety faculty develops professionals who help protect people and workplaces. Programmes range from emergency first aid and evacuation to occupational health and safety, risk assessment, compliance and incident investigation.
